This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a group of 28 energetic and happy students that are ready for Kindergarten every day! They cannot wait to listen to our favorite stories, learn new songs and make new friends. My students are all 5 years old when they start school and for many of them, this is their first educational experience. I want it to be Epic!

Our school is set in a beautiful Mexican neighborhood in a large city in Illinois with lots of culture.

It is also a high poverty neighborhood with many parents that spend most of their time working to make ends meet. Kids are excited to come to our school because we provide the structure as well as the experiences that they need to make learning meaningful to them.

My Project

Kindergarten students enjoy learning about letters and the sounds each letter makes. The "whisper phones" helps them to experiment and manipulate the sounds while they learn to read. The "whisper phones" add a touch of novelty and help students pay close attention to beginning, middle and ending sounds. This helps them become better readers. The magnetic games will also give students lots of needed practice with beginning and ending sounds.The students in my classroom are "at risk" students who do not get the practice that they need outside of school. Help me to close the gap when it comes to reading. Please help us bring these fun centers into our classroom!
