My Students
I am the Speech Therapist that is assigned to Henderson Middle School. My caseload is comprised of students on the autism spectrum, with intellectual disabilities, with language and articulation delays , hearing impairments, and stuttering.
I work In a title one school.
Most of the entire student population qualifies for free or reduced meals. Many of them come from low, socio-economic backgrounds . My students need to be able to access the information through seeing it quite often as a different modality for learning because reading is difficult for most of them. With the use of a projector, there will be higher student participation. They will also be able to learn from each other.
My Project
My students learn from example, and from each other. My goal is for the children to be able to interact with each other to practice skills being introduced. For example, when students are learning about “emotions” visual feedback is important so that they understand what frown, or smile loos like on a person’s face.
The students will learn turn-taking skills, and comprehension will improve.
Group verbal interactions will occur; improving social skills. When I introduce a skill, “closed sentences,” when we are at the desk, we will have opportunities to come together as a group and practice “closed” sentences using visual assistance.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
