This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in Huntington Park, California.
My classroom supports students with moderate to severe autism, and I currently have nine students.
Many of our students are also English language learners and non-verbal.
The individual needs of my students vary greatly, so it is important to have materials and activities that engage all of them. They learn best through the use of pictures, manipulatives, and kinesthetic activities. My students enjoy hands-on materials and are eager to explore new objects.
My Project
The goal of having these materials available in my class is to give my students a hands-on learning experience in which they can use their senses to explore and learn about their environment. These items will help me provide sensory enriched lessons and activities that are geared for all of my diverse learners. My students will learn to classify objects based on similar attributes. They will learn to describe various qualities of each object using their senses to explore each item. The items I am requesting will also serve in supporting social skills lessons including turn taking, cooperation, and sharing.
