Help me give my students Spanish magnetic letters, mirrors, dry erase markers, pop-it strips, sheet protectors, and bags to store their books. All of these supplies will help me implement Science of Reading research into my classroom!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Becoming a successful reader and writer requires that students learn to automatically match the discrete sounds they hear in a word with the letters--or combinations of letters--we use to represent those sounds. Seeing your mouth as it makes each sound, physically manipulating letters, tapping out the sounds we hear, and getting plenty of practice writing words all help reader master the alphabetic code.
The wacky assortment of tools you are providing will help my students make the letter-sound connections that are so important to their reading and writing success!
The Spanish magnetic letters will supplement the English alphabet magnet letter sets we already have to help students see and feel the discrete syllables that make up words. The pop-it bracelets are for laying down flat and tapping to count the sounds that make up a word. Students will use the dry erase markers to write out the letters that make those sounds. The magnetic mirror will go on our sound wall, where students can see photos of how a mouth looks making a particular sounds and match that to the letters that represent them. The compact mirrors are for the same purpose, but will be at the small group table. The plastic sheet protectors are to help me give every student durable copies of poems and short texts that we've read as a class for independent practice. Finally, the big durable zipper pouches are to help students take books to and from school to keep reading at home.
This summer I have been lucky to attend professional development about the Science of Reading and make plans to tweak my instruction in ways that I hope will make reading more accessible to every one of my bilingual 2nd graders. Thank you for helping make this possible!
