Help me give my students headphones with a built- in microphone. Students will be able to listen to reading and watch educational videos without a problem. Students who have trouble writing can easily use speech to text.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a school that is diverse in socio economic levels, ethnic backgrounds, and academic abilities. Students at our school embrace learning and work hard to improve on their abilities and increase potential. One of the things I work hards towards is helping the students to love learning and be proud of themselves..
I try my best to create an environment where students can feel safe, comfortable and love being in the classroom.
With 31 students this is difficult because there is not much space for walking around. Students sit in small groups and I have tables on the sides where they can go to form smaller groups, or work independently if that is what they like. I have an organized library that students use to read in the class or take books home. All materials in the classroom are organized to help students be independent and solve small problems on their own. I'm proud to teach at my school because every year I find that my group of students work hard and take pride in their learning.
My Project
In this age of technology it is important for students to have access to a good pair of headphones to use with their computer. We are fortunate this year to have 1:1 computers and many students have their own set of headphones or earbuds but many depend on the earbuds I've provided but they are not durable. We use the computers for all academic areas and having a good pair of headphones is key to maximize learning.
With headphones with built-in microphone students will gain confidence as they use speech to text to complete writing assignments and to practice language skills on programs like RAZ-kids and Imagine Learning.
Students will also be able to build their reading skills as they listen to reading using a variety of websites. Students will gain confidence and in turn continue to increase their academic skills all year long.
