Healthy Students Need Hygiene Essentials

My students need personal hygiene items that will help them to be more prepared for school and live healthy lives outside of school.

My Students

Urban students often are overlooked and mine are no exception! This is the first time these students are going to receive their own science class and we are in need of so many things. From supplies to models to everything in between, we want to find anything that can help us achieve this goal of learning and doing science!

One thing I have found that is consistent with children regardless of where they live or their social status is that they want to learn and they always love doing things in science.

Enthusiastic, boisterous, curious, wondering, are all traits I would use to describe these students. I want to nurture those qualities because these are our future scientists and tomorrow's citizens who are our world changers and our stewards of the future. I want to put the tools in their hands they need to be successful at their jobs, becoming responsible citizens who understand what they need to do to ensure tomorrow has a chance to succeed.

My Project

Especially with the older students, the need for cleanliness is imperative. Many times, students come in smelling really, really challenging to the people around them. It makes for a difficult time in the classroom when others remark on the 'foul odor' in the room.Sometimes they will stay home if they do not have the things they need to clean their bodies appropriately.

If a student is not comfortable with how they feel, how their clothing looks, or how their body hygiene is affected, their learning will be negatively impacted.

By supplying kits for each student in fourth grade, we can eliminate this need without any student feeling embarrassed.We want to make this a cool school project and give each student a chance to care for themselves regardless of their home ability to provide for these needs.
