This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I want to give my students so much because they have so little. Most of the students I work with come from homes below the poverty line in the Bronx, and I want them to have the chance to experience something positive that can influence their lives. Some of these students don't have access to the simplest supplies at home.

I want my students to be exposed to as much as possible so that they don't fall behind.

Even though they have so much going against them, they bounce back each time and come to school ready to learn. They look to our school as a safe place away from their living environment, and that makes me want to provide them with everything I can.

My Project

Due to the fact that many of my students come from low-income families, many of my students lack hearty snacks at home. We can all agree that learning can be challenging at times. But learning on an empty stomach makes it difficult to stay engaged. Many of our students remain after school for after-school activities, such as after-school sports and homework club, and most of the students do not bring snacks from home. Some of the students go to the vending machine to purchase chips and soda, which is not very healthy.

I would love to provide my students with a healthy snack for after school!

Having snacks like protein bars and seltzer drinks would be great for the students because it is easy and quick when you are on the go. In addition, these snacks provide a lot of healthy ingredients like fruits and nuts, which can help keep students focused and engaged during after-school programs.
