Healthy Snacks Will Help Kindergarten Kids Stay Focused!

My students need Healthy Snacks (Granola & Nutri-Grain Bars, Animal Crackers, Pretzels, Popcorn) to keep them full and focused all day at school. They also need sanitizing wipes.

My Students

Snack time is an important daily ritual for all of our students. This little break helps them to re-energize & re-focus their attention in class. Unfortunately, many kids come to school without a snack for the day. With your help, we can keep our Kindergarten students fueled by healthy snacks!

We are a Title I, New York City Public School in Queens, where nearly 60% of Students qualify for free/reduced lunch.

Most children also have free breakfast at school every day. Many Parents do pack healthy snacks for their kids, but it is a real financial struggle for many others. Our school's high poverty / high need classification has never stopped our students from doing their best. Our diverse community is quite international with almost 70% of our students coming from homes where English is spoken as a second language. One-fifth of our students receive extra support for learning English. We also provide communication materials to Parents in 4 home languages (English, Chinese, Spanish & Korean). Our commitment to differentiated instruction supports students of all ability levels in every classroom by integrating: ● English Language Learners (ELL students) ● ● English as a Second Language (ESL students) ● ● Students with Special Needs ● ● General Education Students ●

My Project

We want to be able to give our students all of the tools necessary for success at school. However, we just cannot afford to provide daily, healthy snacks in our current, bare bones, NYC school budget. These Healthy Snacks (Granola & Nutri-Grain Bars, Animal Crackers, Pretzels, Popcorn) will keep our students full and focused all day at school. Our breakfast is finished by 8am and many children are done with lunch by 11:30am. The long, 3-hour afternoon stretch is when snack time is needed most. We all know how distracting a little rumble in your tummy can be! Our busy school days are filled with a Literacy-focused curriculum, including mathematics, science, social studies and the expressive arts. All students have movement class 2x each week (physical education / gym class), but these 5-6 year old children are active all week long. Let's keep our Kindergarten kids full of good food and energized for focused-learning all day at school!

Feeling hungry & distracted is a terrible feeling for anyone, but it's even worse when you are a kid who really needs that boost from a healthy snack.

Many Teachers have purchased their own extra snacks for students who don't have one from home, but that positive gesture gets very expensive during the year. With your help, our Kindergarten students will all have healthy snacks ready and waiting every single day in our classroom! Thank you for supporting our wonderful and deserving kids!!
