Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Engines run best when filled with ample and higher-quality fuel. Students learn best when their tummies are full, they aren't worried about their next meal, and the food is of higher quality. Our 15 Early Childhood students are no exception. Each child is an amazing little learner who is part of a wonderfully loving family in our small school district.

Unfortunately, these families happen to live in an area that is struggling heavily with below-poverty conditions.

Our school is currently 100% free and reduced lunch eligible. When they come to school they are hungry. We gladly feed them breakfast, lunch, and a small snack before they go home. However, we feel that these snacks are not satisfactory relying heavily on cheap carbs and unnecessary sugar to fill a void. We believe these children need protein and healthier carb options to help satiate their appetites and tide them over especially if the evening meal at home may be paltry or nonexistent.

We chose shelf-stable snacks that contain higher protein knowing that meat is expensive and can be difficult to come by for many families. We would love to serve or send home peanut butter as it is a great source of protein and inexpensive. Unfortunately, we have students with allergies to peanuts forcing us to find alternative more expensive sources for the protein they need. The money that you donate will be used to help each individual student by giving them the building blocks for learning and living they so desperately need.
