This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a visual and performing arts high school where many of our students come from low income families.
What I love about my students is that they are incredibly creative as young artists and also apply themselves to their academic studies. They are special because, even though they have disabilities they routinely work hard to overcome the difficulties they face.
A recent success in the classroom happened when a student with attention and anxiety challenges was able to use technology to help him focus and successfully organize information when working on a lengthy project and research paper.
My Project
Our school’s population of students come from low income families and may have free or reduced lunch. However the food that is provided to them is not appealing and will not eat it. Students will rather wait until they get home instead of eating at school.
My students are in 9th - 12th grade and have an Individualized EducationPlan (IEP).
They often come to me for food at different times of the day. They need healthy snacks that will help them stay alert in their classes in order to be successful. Flu season is upon us and we need Clorox wipes to keep the room clean from germs to keep everyone healthy enough to come to school everyday.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
