I am a K-1 self contained classroom teacher in South Jamaica Queens. Working in a 12:1:1 class is an amazing opportunity. We form collaborative relationships over the two school years we are together. I get to know every student's needs and talents. My students have autism, emotional disturbances and speech and language difficulties. However, my students are brilliant artists, scientists and conversationalists.

In this classroom students are given the tools, time, and resources they need to meet and exceed their grade level expectations.
My Project
The majority of students in our school receive free lunch and breakfast. Many of the students depend on these meals. Students participating in afterschool and Saturday programming currently are not provided free meals or snacks. Healthy snacks like these will ensure students will be successful in the classroom because they will have the nutrition that is necessary to have a successful day. It will also give the students with a great variety to choose from .
Our students come to school to learn, hunger should never be a barrier to students' success.
These healthy snacks will help ensure that students are ready to engage in learning.
