Healthy Snacks Equal Healthy Brains

My students need healthy snacks, stability balls, stability ball bases, and soccer nets so that they can keep their brains in tip-top shape and their bodies moving, too!

My Students

"Tell me and I will forget. Show me and I will remember. Involve me and I will understand. Step back and I will act." - Chinese Proverb. Have you ever heard this quote? It describes our school day to a T! Involving students with hands-on and relevant activities is imperative in today's world.

When you come into our classroom, you will see 26 bright and smiling faces, no matter what is going on around them.

My students are eager to please and work hard to get from point A to point B. No matter what you put in front of them, my students diligently complete the task to its fullest extent. In our classroom, my students come from low socioeconomic homes. My goal is to be able to provide them with activities and materials that will impact their lives, even in 3rd grade. My students love eating healthy and are constantly on the move, so this health and well being project inspired solely by my students and funded by Target will help ensure we have the proper supplies necessary to continue our fitness journeys on a daily basis in a unique, fun way.

My Project

The core curriculum (ELA, Math, Science, and SS) requires a lot from students. Because of that, students need the opportunity to let themselves go and become active inside the classroom, as well as outside the classroom. One of those means of letting themselves go to become active is when they're able to play kickball, tetherball, soccer, or any other active sport at recess. This project allows for that to happen by providing them with stability balls and soccer goals, as well as soccer cones. By purchasing health and wellness materials such as these, as in the past several years, my students have begged and begged for some soccer supplies, along with some alternative seating methods of stability balls, PLUS the healthy snacks, my students will not only be working on their own personal fitness goals, but they'll be able to encourage one another to keep moving.

Nothing motivates my students more than participating in competitive activities that influence their own personal lives.

Eating healthy snacks has always been what gets my students through the day, and their request for more is what keeps me going! Cheddar goldfish and granola bars were the most requested snacks last year, thus my students fully inspired and led this project so that they can get through the day without worrying about their bellies being empty.

Through the use of these materials, students will gain a wealth of sports-medicine knowledge and become well-rounded individuals, even at this young age. This is made possible because they can simply use their outdoor tools and indoor snacks to bring that knowledge with them wherever they are (indoors or outdoors), giving them the "brain breaks" and "brain food" they need throughout the day.
