This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Mental health is one of the many challenges that schools face daily. The overall lack of mental health resources available to students and staff has become a serious challenge for many. Research suggests that mental health problems is associated with poor academic and job performance. Our records indicate that 10 percent of our student body population suffers from one of the following mental health diagnoses; depression, ADHD, anxiety, PTSD, Autism, OCD, bipolar disorder and other emotional disturbances (of those that have been reported). Let’s remember that due to the lack of mental health resources and economic means by some of our students, parents/families and staffs many emotional and mental health concerns will go undiagnosed and unattended.

Moreover, anticipated and unanticipated life stressors can contribute to the effects of poor mental health.

Poor finances, anxiety, poor work/school balance, family issues, unrealistic demands, poor interpersonal skills/relationships, harassment/bullying can lead to a decaying mental health crisis.

The purpose of this project is to increase the levels of concentration and focus while stimulating improved mood, self-esteem, and overall wellbeing. The goal is to create a mental health friendly workplace for all at Bellaire High School. We want to promote a culture that is responsive, values and understands mental health, and engages in the needs of everyone on campus. We want to promote personal health, wellness, in addition to professional growth and development for all. We want to ensure that through this project we are able to remind and encourage everyone that there is help and resources available within reach on campus and our community.
