Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are English Language Learners in a Spanish developmental bilingual program, which means that they are exposed to listening and speaking in English, but learn Spanish reading and writing first. These students transition into English reading and writing in second grade. My students attend one of the largest public elementary schools in Wisconsin, with nearly 800 students, 98% of whom qualify for free and reduced lunches. As the second and third grade English as a Second Language Teacher, I help to bridge Spanish and English Literacy.
If you were to enter my classroom, you would hear students speaking primarily in Spanish, but as I enter the room students begin to shift to English!
They are bridging two languages to become future leaders in an ever-changing world and I will do all that I can to support them.
My Project
The disinfectant wipes and disinfectant spray will clean the surfaces and air in the classroom. Having enough Kleenex will help students cover and wipe their noses without contaminating others. The soap and wet wipes will ensure that germs are washed away after wiping their noses.
Healthier students will improve attendance and create better learning opportunities!
Healthy students are happy students willing to learn and apply their knowledge! Students will learn about the importance of germ prevention in the Healthy Me unit. Each student will receive a toothbrush and toothpaste as well as a healthy snack at the end of the unit to bridge home and school.
