My Project
Here at John Glenn, our students are ambitious and dedicated to achieving their goals. Not only on the track but in the classroom as well and as their coach, I take pride in my team's academic success over the past three years my team has worked extremely hard to maintain more than sufficient grades averaging a 3.1 GPA during the season. I allow our athletes to use their 6th-period athletics to get a head start on homework and projects for their classes so once they're done with practice they can go home or take the time to see our athletic trainer and go through recovery for any injuries they have.
We know injuries are inevitable but there are ways to reduce the risk of them occurring.
In Track and Field, the most common injuries happen to do with the quads, knees, hamstrings, calves, shins, and ankles they can all occur due to improper running form. The whiteboard can be used to draw up visuals for proper running mechanics so students can visualize what they should look like and then go through drills to achieve the proper running form. It can also be used to demonstrate race models and strategies to learn how to run certain races such as the 100-200 and 400-meter dash.
My students train with a purpose and that is to be better than they were yesterday. Slowly but surely we have improved as a program in the last two years and I don't see us slowing down at all. Help my students continue to pursue their academic and athletic goals.
