My Project

Healthy lifestyles start with healthy food choices. As a community with low income and high immigration, many of whom are seeking asylum in the United States, students and families are not necessarily familiar with how their food choices in our country may be healthy or unhealthy, as many new, affordable food choices they are finding in the US are not always the healthiest options. Learning about this early on can make a lasting impact in students' lives. As a class, we will focus on informational writing and reading to research healthy food choices. By helping my students to understand this, it is helping their families to understand it as well, and leads to a community education on the importance of healthy food choices.

Through this project, my students will become advocates for healthy food choices in their communities.

I've requested an instant camera so students can take pictures of healthy snack choices and make posters for our school community to encourage healthy eating.I've requested ink for our classroom printer so students can bring their ideas to life. In bringing these ideas to life, students will make healthy food posters using the instant camera and will use their voices to record videos about the importance of healthy food choices. They will hang their healthy food posters throughout the school to encourage other students to make smart food choices.
