Healthy Eating Is Key to Scholars Engaging Academically!

My students need to eat smarter so their minds and body do not have to work harder!

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Threatt's classroom raised $595

My Students

My school serves enthusiastic students in grades PreK-8. 99% of the students I serve receive free or reduced lunch. In addition, the neighborhoods in which my students live often experience violence. Students refer to school as their safe haven. It is my duty to ensure students are reporting to a safe, productive, learning environment.

However, it can be very difficult for a child to focus in the classroom when they went to bed the night before on an empty stomach only to awake to an empty refrigerator and cabinets.

No one would have expected a rose to grow from concrete, but my school and students serve as a prime example! Despite my scholars' hardships, they continue to persevere. I strive to be more than their math teacher. I aim to show my students that I not only care about their academic success, but their healthy, physical, and mental well being.

My Project

There is no better time to expose students to healthier eating options then the present! Many diets of children consists of unhealthy snacks due to the convenience and low cost. With obesity rates increasing faster at earlier ages, rates tend to be higher among African Americans children. As my school serves a population of 99% African American children, it is my duty to ensure my students report to school prepared to engage in the learning by providing healthy brain food. Unfortunately, unhealthy snacks can result in chronic diseases, including high blood pressure, obesity, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes.

Together, we can counter these negative effects by providing healthier options to promote balanced energy, improved mindsets, and a healthy weight.

This project will surely increase academic engagement within the classrooms by keeping the body alert and active. Exposing students to healthy eating OPTIONS can transpire to students developing healthy eating HABITS!
