I will be teaching a class of multicultural fourth graders who are a mixture of ELD, special needs, and gifted students. They are eager students who are ready to learn and try their best.
More than half of our students come from low-income families who cannot provide them with the resources they need to help give their children the best education possible.
These students are the ones on the free or reduced-price lunch list.
With the diverse students in my class, I always find myself modifying everything I teach.
My Project
The flu season is in full swing and everyone is getting sick! Two weeks ago, I had 12 children absent and 6 went home early leaving me with 15 kids in my classroom to teach. Any teacher knows that it is impossible to teach a new lesson when you have more than half of your classroom out sick. And that's where the challenge begins!
In order to have a good education children must be healthy and present at school!
Classrooms are the number one way these children spread germs and get sick. I've talked my students about washing hands and using our classroom hand sanitizers on many different occasions. However, noticing the sniffles and coughs on a daily basis is a constant reminder that we need to do something more. That is why I am requesting an air purifier for our classroom. The purifier will help kill the bacteria, viruses, and anything else in the classroom. This will also be useful when we have the horrible air quality during the numerous fires we have in California.
