it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As the first SAPIS counselor across our campus of three schools, I'm incredibly excited about starting a program that will directly impact the lives of so many students. Any young person in the school who is questioning how to cope, or who is considering or using substances will be eligible to receive nonjudgmental, culturally competent counseling in English or Spanish, with me. Being able to offer students a safe and welcoming meeting space is key. Students will have the opportunity to meet with me, on their own terms, in a comfortable, private office. Having a printer and ink will allow students to have access to updated, medically accurate information on substance abuse and treatment, and will work with me to practice making healthier choices in response to the stress and life challenges they are facing.
* SAPIS Counselor is the Substance Abuse Prevention and Intervention Specialist and is available to all of our students.
