My Project

Although they have been in the classroom for a year, my first and second-grade students were online for at least part of their foundational educational experiences. This year I have created a “Calmness Corner” within my classroom to help create opportunities for them to learn how to reduce their stress and anxiety while increasing their mental and emotional well-being. Bringing in mindfulness tools (such as fidgets) and books will help them learn strategies to manage their bodies and focus their minds. Additionally, alternative seating such as lap desks and chair bands will also support this goal within the main seating area of my room.

Many children struggle with controlling emotions as well as body movements, but a child feeling calmer and more comfortable will be a student who can focus and succeed!

This project will allow me to create a more productive and mindful classroom. My “Calming Corner” will enable students to learn how to use a variety of tools such as chair yoga, mindful moments and sensory tools to manage their emotions and relieve their anxiety.
