As most of you know, schools are just starting to reopen. Families are excited to send their children back to school. Some parents are unemployed which is causing them financial hardship while trying to provide for their children. This coronavirus pandemic has changed everything for our families, students, and teachers.
My school is at a high poverty rate.
Many of the students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. We are especially worried about students who were already at risk, whose families truly struggle day-to-day in their homes with how they are going to pay bills and provide food. Being home for this extended amount of time is definitely traumatic for them. Now, they are returning to school and water fountains have been turned off. They are required to wear masks when not able to social distance themselves from others.
My students and families need encouragement from the school to show them that this time can be enjoyable and experiences and memories can be made. Help us provide them with bottles of water in this desperate time of need. Help us reassure them that we all have an invisible string that connects us and that we are in this together.
My Project
My students need a way to stay hydrated since the water fountains at our school have been turned off to reduce the spread of germs. Students will only have limited opportunities to get water during the day. We do not have a water station in our classroom, so having bottles of water is extremely important.
Drinking enough water is one of the best things kids can do to keep their bodies physically and mentally healthy.
Mild dehydration can cause moods to change and slight dehydration can make you experience more tension or irritation. Studies have discovered that when you reduce your fluid intake, you can get dehydrated and that affects your mood and health.
Having bottles of water in the classroom will allow for less movement in the classroom and the school hallways during this pandemic.
If students have access to bottles of water, it will give them a water source at the tip of their fingers. It will help keep them hydrated and healthy during this time. Some students come to school without water and wish they had it. With your help, you can quench the thirst of our students and give them brainpower by keeping them hydrated.
