My Students

Our school has an enrollment of 812 students. Our school is a 21 year old public school building. I currently have 57 students in my two first grade classrooms. We are a Dual Spanish Immersion school. I am the English teacher for our first grade DLI students. I teach 29 1st graders in one of my classes, and 28 students in my other 1st grade class. We are located in a suburban area. These children have missed preschool, all or part of kindergarten, and parts of 1st grade due to Covid-19. These children have many needs, as I try to help them fill in those missing months of learning.

Twenty-four percent of the students at our school are economically disadvantaged.

Sixteen percent have disabilities. Four percent are English Language Learners. Less than one percent are military connected. Less than one percent are in foster care. One percent are homeless.

Students come from our local community, as well as neighboring communities. Many parents drive quite a long distance, to bring their child to a school that offers a chance for their child to learn a second language.

My Project

The language arts supplies will help with word building skills, decoding, identifying the beginning, middle and ending sounds, and reading fluency and comprehension skills. The whiteboards will be used for both reading and math lessons. The book "The Magical Yet" will help each child know that anything is possible. They will learn that each of us, from the day we were born, is accompanied by a special companion--the YET!

In my classes, I have five children with asthma, one with a respiratory airway disease, and one with allergies.

The Shark air purifier with allergen HEPA filter, and extra filter will help the children in my class stay healthy throughout this pandemic.
