Healthy Active Scholars

My Students

Greetings!

I currently instruct Physical Education at a Project LIFT/Title I school located in Charlotte, North Carolina where 100% of our scholars receive free breakfast and lunch.

Due to the economic hardships that our scholars face on a daily basis, they love our, "family culture" environment that's established here. Many of our scholars enter my classroom/gym eager to engage in new sports, games, or physical activities, asking "what are we playing today?". Unfortunately for our scholars, our school does not have enough resources or equipment to allow everyone to participate in activities they would enjoy.

My Project

These materials and equipment would allow our scholars to engage in activities and experience competition that they can't enjoy the rest of the school day.

Providing our scholars with physical education equipment that we're currently lacking, would allow 100% of them to participate in team activities that would teach them how to work with one another and use communication skills to reach a common team goal.

Studies show that scholars who engage in physical activity during the day, are able to focus better in their classes and achieve higher grades as a result of this focus. In addition to higher grades, scholars will have an overall sense of well-being, and confidence as they become more active and involved in sports.

Our scholars will utilize the basketballs in a 3 on 3 and a free throw shoot out competition, soccer balls in a sideline soccer match against each other, footballs will be used for football lead up skills drills and modified games. The volleyballs and omniken balls will be used for modified volleyball games and the jump ropes and scooter boards will be utilized in cooperative games such as obstacle course relays.
