My 2nd grade full inclusion classroom is comprised of 28 individuals who vary in need to include students who do not speak English, who struggle academically to those who excel in all areas. One thing that was new to Arizona schools this year was adding an additional 15 minute recess throughout the school day. While the students liked this change and were eager to release some energy, there was one piece missing...sporting equipment to play with during recess.
My Project
Throughout the past year, an additional 15 minute recess has been added to Arizona elementary schools. While the students are excited for a break from the classroom, they complained daily that they did not have any sports equipment to play with. This project will not only give them a variety of ways to play each day, but will help students make new friends and engage in physical activity. Students will have the opportunity to try new games, work collaboratively and communicate with one another. Instead of students walking around or sitting for 15 minutes, they will have vast ways to be active and have fun!
