This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students come from a variety of different economic and cultural backgrounds with one hundred percent receiving free lunch. Our after school program is designed specifically for students to get help with homework, build confidence, and exercise. They are exposed to a variety of age appropriate learning activities that are designed to meet their individual learning levels. The students have multiple opportunities to learn with hands-on activities tailored to their learning styles in STEM, math, physical exercise, and science related activities. The after-school program assists their learning so they can be successful in school and life.

My Project

The After School Extended Day Program (ASEDP) is a research-based program designed to provide a safe and nurturing environment to support student academic achievement through experiences that build self-esteem and character. The program provides an enriched academic environment balanced with a variety of engaging, fun, interactive, and well-organized activities. These extracurricular activities support STEM initiatives, cultural arts, sports, and academic enrichment. The program is for students from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Our program introduced yoga this school year to assist the students with exercise and to build focus skills.

Some benefits of yoga include increased focus, concentration, confidence, self awareness, emotional regulation, social skills, self-love and acceptance, overall calmness, and overall external love and acceptance toward others.
