Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Being in an inner city school our students come from varies different backgrounds; some are former gang members and foster kids and need to find a different way to deal with emotions, especially anger.
My students live in all of the five boroughs and attend an inner city school in New York.
They come from varies different backgrounds, religions and cultures. Many come from single parent house holds, immigrant families,fostercare, and face a number of other challenges. Most students receive free or reduced school lunch and do not have access to resources like yoga.
My Project
My students need 12 yoga mats. Yoga will allow my students to be present and to be more responsible human beings in this world. By introducing yoga to my students, I will be helping them feel more connected to themselves, their feelings and their actions. Change is very difficult for teens and I am hoping that yoga will challenge my students get started on an internal revolution.
The impacts of this project will have immediate and long term effects on the lives of my students.
Immediately, they will begin to feel the physical benefits. The long term impact will be seen in a reduction of stress, anxiety and anger. Most importantly students will learn a different way of dealing with their emotions. Yoga is very powerful and can change the minds and bodies of my students!
