Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are great. They love learning, and they enjoy coming to school. My students are mostly immigrants or children of immigrants. Many are English language learners (ELLs). Nearly all students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch because their family household incomes are below the poverty line.

My school is a large, crowded school in a very large urban district.

This past year, we have had a lot of budget cuts. Several staff from our school were cut. Most of our budget has been used to keep the teachers and staff that we do have. Even though the school has limited resources, students have some of the highest test scores in the area.

My Project

My students have been remote learning for over a year. Most of my students have decided to remain remote for this quarter. Many of my students have had sick family members this year. Parents have lost jobs. It has been a struggle to put food on the table. There has been violence and looting in the neighborhood. It has been a hard time for my students.

My students need art supplies for self expression.

With over a year of remote learning, my students are craving hands-on and creative projects. With these materials, students will be able to create paintings using the brushes, paint, and paper. They will use the aprons and tablecloth to keep their homes clean while completing their artwork. These materials will be a huge help in helping my students heal from a very hard year.
