Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach English as a second language to 5th and 6th grade students. Learning English at this age includes four domains: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. We have technology available for them; however, the headsets provided at the beginning of the year did not have microphones, which didn't help them to record their answers and improve the quality of their speech.
Good-quality headsets with microphones lift their self-esteem.
If they have nice materials, they feel better about their ESL status and would be incentivized to do better and work harder. It is difficult to be seen as the one who does not know English, so I try every strategy to make them feel seen and important.
