My Students

The East Coast wants to see the West Coast! The cost is too high to take a field trip to another coast so the next best thing is pen pals!

My kindergarten students attend a rural elementary school in South Carolina.

The majority of my students have lived in South Carolina their whole life and only vacation on the East Coast. They know sweet southern drawls, sweet tea and everyone is family. They are innocently unaware how other parts of our country live and talk.

My Project

This year my students are so lucky to have a great group of kindergarten pen pals in California. I am excited to expose my students to real life writing opportunities while sharing and learning about the other side of our country. It is amazing what technology can allow students to see and do. With an iPad in our classroom, my students will be able to use it to take videos, pictures, video chat and so much more. We will be able to electronically send pictures and videos and save the cost of stamps. Just imagine a group of students video chatting from one coast to another. This project will not only have a positive impact on my students but also for their pen pals.

Exposing our students to other cultures and regions is important to create a positive and caring world.
