Headphones Promote Focus

My students need a class set of headphones so they are able to independently access online learning material. Some students also prefer to complete their work while listening to music, which is allowed at independent stations.

My Students

I teach math to an amazing group of 7th and 8th-grade students in Philadelphia. This year I will be working with the first 8th-grade class to graduate from my school. Students come from 43 of Philadelphia's 49 unique zip codes. 98% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. As adolescents, middle school students are going through a lot of changes in the struggle to find their true selves and require a lot of love and support as they navigate the path from childhood to independence.

My Project

Headphones will help my 7th and 8th-grade students focus during math class. My students have varying sensory needs. Few students are able to bring headphones from home, which leads to students borrowing headphones from other students or listening to their modules at a low volume, which leads to decreased focus for all students.

Headphones will allow my students to access online learning independently, without distracting their classmates.

My students will also use these headphones, if they choose, to listen to music while completing their independent seatwork. Many students are able to zone into their math work more easily while listening to music.
