This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a class of some pretty awesome third grade students who are ready to empower themselves this year and meet every challenge head-on! I currently have 22 students, although that could very easily change as our area is experiencing tremendous growth right now! Our neighborhood is in a very rural part of Nevada and is a mix of working and middle class folks who show wonderful support to our school.

This high level of community support and engagement is truly what makes our school a special place.

The staff, students, and parents in the community truly come together to make sure that all students are receiving the best education that they can. Although our district faces many challenges, from overcrowding to lack of funding to teacher shortages, none of this affects the positive and upbeat attitudes that make our school a community!

My Project

These materials are much needed in our classroom! We are fortunate to have access in our classroom to some computer technology, but we have no headphones, which means the volume can at times be distracting for the other students. We will use the headphones daily so that all of the students can work as effectively as possible, whether they are working at a seat in the classroom or working individually at a computer.

The microscopes will allow us to take our STEM lessons to the next level.

These handheld microscopes are the perfect companions for young scientists as their adaptability is designed with little hands in mind. They will provide my students with the opportunity to get an up close look at so many things, including the plants we will grow in our structures of life unit and the structures of different seeds and roots, and are sure to spark their enthusiasm and interest in the topics we are studying. We will use the microscopes weekly in conjunction with our STEM lessons to build our understanding of the diverse topics we will be studying throughout the school year.
