My Students
Last spring was an adventure, without question. We shifted to online learning, and I just couldn't figure out how to grab and hold my fourth graders' attention online.
You see, children these days are used to technology entertaining them... now we need to shift to educating them!
Children can spend hours engaged with a screen- when they find it interesting. If you need proof, just give typical nine-year-olds access to Youtube and watch them go!
This summer, with the prospect of online teaching looming, I decided I owed it to my future students to come up with a better way...
My Project
I am the Virtual Academy teacher for Fourth Grade, which puts my students in an interesting conundrum. Due to social distancing measures, all classrooms are being used by students and teachers who are being taught in person. This means that virtual teachers have been displaced to any available nook and cranny in the school building- spaces that would never have been considered for teaching in the past.
Our new classroom is a former closet beside the staff bathrooms.
I am so thankful to have this safe space to teach, but the reality is that we hear toilets flushing all day.
These headphones have state of the art noise canceling capabilities- not just for the listener but built into the microphone as well. This means class will no longer be interrupted by the sound of the toilet, and my students will be able to learn without distraction.
