My Project
In my diverse 6th-grade classroom, we strive to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment for all students, including our English language learners (ELLs). To support my students' learning, I'm seeking funding for a classroom set of durable headphones that can withstand daily use and cater to various educational activities.
My students engage with audiobooks, interactive reading programs, podcasts, and other literacy based listening activities that enhance their comprehension and vocabulary skills.
Headphones will allow them to listen to content without distractions, improving focus and understanding.
We use Amplify Science curriculum with embedded articles that my students read and annotate. Since these articles are scaled to 6th grade readers, my students often will choose the audio companion. Some of my students need that support as part of an IEP, 504, or ELL support and some of my students use it as a way of checking their comprehension and vocabulary skills. Durable headphones will help students engage deeply with the material, especially during group projects and individual research.
For students who struggle with reading, audiobooks provide an alternative way to access literature, gain background knowledge, and develop vocabulary skills. Headphones will enable them to enjoy stories and learn vocabulary in an immersive way.
My ELL students benefit immensely from audio resources. Headphones will allow them to listen to pronunciation and contextualize new vocabulary in a way that supports their language development.
