This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my district are consistently eager to learn and enthusiastic about new and exciting learning opportunities, despite the challenges that they face outside of the classroom.

Our students live in an urban, low-income city comprised largely of hardworking immigrant families, many of whom speak a language other than English at home.

Our students and their families have been severely impacted by the pandemic; the impact extends beyond academics to social-emotional health, and general well-being.

Our students love to learn, but as we have begun this school year in a fully remote model, we need to do everything we can to set them up for success. We are working to take the lessons learned during the spring's remote teaching and apply them as we transform teaching and learning moving forward. We will do whatever is possible to keep the spark of learning alive--along with the enthusiasm, effort, and resiliency that defines our students.

My Project

This has been a school year like no other, with students learning in a fully remote model, and we need to do everything possible to set our students up for success in their learning. Our new first grade students are using Chromebooks for the first time, and they are using them daily for the majority of their learning. This in itself is hard enough, but if they cannot hear the instruction or speak clearly to participate, it is even harder and more frustrating for students and teachers.

These headphones will allow students to tune out any background noise so that they can hear and focus on their teacher or the video they are watching.

The headphones have a built-in microphone so students can practice speaking clearly as they record themselves and speak with their teacher and classmates.

These headphones will remove barriers that might prevent students from hearing clearly and make it possible for all students to access their learning equitably. Along with the digital literacy skills that students will be developing as they participate in Zoom classes and Seesaw lessons, they will also be working to develop speaking and listening skills.
