Frankford is a neighborhood high school that is comprised of a 52% black and 33% Hispanic population. The majority of our students come from low income families; one fifth of the students are English learners and one third of the school receive special education services.
The mixture of cultures and backgrounds in Frankford provide a beautiful and unique diversity that is unmatched in the city.
It also provides challenges to engage students at their own level as they learn Spanish as a second or third language, or are challenged to learn academic Spanish. I appreciate your consideration and generosity as you read this project.
My Project
My Spanish classroom just received a classroom set of laptops! This is a game-changer! Now students can complete work at their own pace and listen to videos in Spanish as many times as they need until they understand it. However, with the advent of airpods, many students cannot plug in their own headphones, which creates a cacophony of sounds in our classroom -making it difficult for all involved to focus.
By donating to this project, you will allow students to hear the sounds of streets around the world, travel around the world through music, and explore Spanish-speaking cuisine through cooking shows.
This self-guided exploration will improve intrisic motivation and the overall learning process.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
