Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students consist of children from a low socioeconomic background. They are lovely, motivated and respectful children that are enthusiastic about learning. Specifically, I teach social studies to students from grades K-5. Since I am the only social studies teacher in the school, I frequently do not get to teach every class in the school. Our school has a population of over 750 students.

Engaging my students through my pedagogy is my main goal.

I have many students that are English Language Learners and/or not auditory learners. They thrive and get engaged in my lessons through my tactful use of relevant video clips and images. Video clips, powerpoint presentations, educational websites and images are also effective in engaging my special education students.

My Project

Recently, our school purchased laptops for all classes to use on the second and third floors of the school building. Although this has been a great thing for our students, the problem now is that there is only one set of 32 headphones for all the students on the second and third floors. We have 15 classes per floor with 25-32 students per class. At this point, when I use the laptops, many of the headphones are broken or not working. I need to go around the building asking teachers if I can borrow some of their headphones.

My students should not have to be sharing headphones or going from class to class asking to borrow headphones.

It is for this very reason that I would like to have enough headphones for at least 2 classes, because I know that I have 15 classes and 1 set will not last the whole year.
