My students need working headphones in order to do online activities on the iPads. While they are learning on educational programs other students are working in small group with me and not distracted by the noise.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
For most of my career as an educator I have taught in a Bilingual setting. Throughout the years it has been both challenging and rewarding to work with this particular population. It has been rewarding because these students demonstrate so much growth not only academically but through their learning of the English language as well. It has been challenging because many times we would not receive the adequate resources to help my students academically. In recent years this has changed and we have been able to acquire, if not all, but many of the same resources as in regular education.
I teach a Kindergarten Bilingual classroom that consists of 22 Latino-American children.
The entire class is of low socio-economic status. The children all live in Providence, RI, which is an urban district. Although, all students are Latino, they are of diverse cultures. The children bring different backgrounds, interests, and expertise to the group. They are a loving bunch of kids, who are eager to learn and grow.
My Project
The headphones will help my students stay engaged. Since, I use a Blended Learning approach, the online lessons that are aligned with Common Core help my students practice what they've learned in class. While students use the headphones to work on online activities, other students work in Literacy or Math centers, and in small group with me.
The headphones will help the students in my classroom stay focused.
The students will complete lesson independently, while the others receive small group instruction in their area of need. These headphone will keep noise level at a minimum which is conducive to a learning environment
