This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We've all been there- having to go to work or school even on our bad days, or even when life feels too overwhelming to focus. As part of my push for mental health awareness in my classroom, I want to help students normalize bad days and understand that it is okay to have to prioritize their own needs sometimes.
To support this initiative, this project will help get a pair of over-the-ear noise cancelling headphones for my classroom to help ease overstimulation and anxiety on days when everything feels like too much for some students.
The vision is to collect a variety of resources to make a space where students can escape, listen to music, meditate, or decompress when their thoughts and the classroom feels like too much. These headphones would be kept for special occasions and will be part of a bigger toolbox to help teach students that taking a break and listening to their own needs is okay, even in school.
