My Students

I am a teacher at a very large middle school with around 1,500 students. I teach 7th grade this year and personally have 180 energetic, motivated students who enter my classroom on a daily basis.

I teach three science classes a day on a 90-minute block schedule on an A-B schedule with six classes in all.

Each class is filled with different energy levels and different capabilities. I have students with learning disabilities, ADHD, big hearts, and gifted abilities. Each of my students are different, and I am trying to individualize their education as much as possible.

My students are interested in many things, including sports, music, and art. We incorporate all of these things into our science class, especially 30 second dance parties to celebrate our successes. My students are silly, social, loving, and, above all, motivated.

My Project

In my classroom, the students are able to find their own information and create their own notes and study materials. Through one to one technology, where every student has their own chrome book provided by the school, I am able to send students videos to watch, recordings of me explaining, and allow them to engage in other study materials than just written word.

While we are able to provide each student with a Chromebook, we are unable to provide each one with a pair of headphones or earbuds.

I have five working pairs of headphones that students can use in my room, but those go quickly and, unfortunately, many students go without.

I am all about having each of my students, regardless of their ability to purchase their materials, learn on an even playing field. With all of the things for them to worry about, having headphones is something I want them to not worry about.
