Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a low socioeconomic background. Many of them come to school without the supplies needed to begin the year and if they do come with their supplies they are usually ones that are poorly made and do not make it through the first nine weeks. Once those supplies run out it is often hard to get parents to send in replacements. Giving low-income students access to the materials they need is an investment in their future, helping them become better lifelong learners.
My Project
Headphones are a new item that was added to our school supply list this year, because our 5th grade classrooms received a cart of Chromebooks. Yay! Unfortunately, not everyone can afford a pair of headphones for their children so many of them either began the year without them or came with a pair that will not withstand the daily use they are put through. Having a class set of headphones will ensure that each of my students has a pair to use on a daily basis that is durable and will last the whole year through and more. The set also allows each student to have the same exact pair to use as their peers and won't make them feel singled out if they don't have that "cool" pair of headphones.
