Headphones for Everyone

Help me give my students headphones for our listening center so every student can enjoy listening to stories being read to them.

My Students

I teach in a Charter School in Northeast Philadelphia. We are a String Theory School which means the performing arts are integrated into the academic program. My students are given the opportunity to participate in Ballet, Art, Violin, Creative Writing, and Science. My students are from a low socio-economic neighborhood and are provided with a free breakfast and lunch everyday at school. My school believes that providing students with equal opportunity for learning and discovery and development of their innate potentials, through String Theory Schools’ unique and rigorous curriculum blending academic and artistic excellence, enables the students to become the next generation of creative leaders.

My kindergarteners love school.

They enjoy interacting with each other and their teachers, they love listening to stories, and they love hands-on-learning.

My Project

My students love center time. This is a time that they are able to explore and move around the classroom while still being super engaged in learning. The listening center is a favorite spot for the students and so important in the learning to read process. Listening to stories being read to you will improve fluency and vocabulary. My students are asked to bring a pair of headphones into school, but not all of them can afford to purchase headphones, or they bring in a super cheap pair that breaks in no time. Providing headphones for the students to use will enhance the learning in the listening center and when they use school iPads.
