My Students
I am currently the Focused Instructional Coach in an urban district.
The students who come to school are eager to learn.
Most of the students who attend my school are economically disadvantaged and need all the resources they can get at school. They thrive, however, when they are given the opportunity to expand their learning.
The students learn best when they are fully engaged and what better way through the use of technology. Over 25% of the student body are English Language Learners who require many visual cues, schema building and adaptations to everyday teaching.
Our ESL teachers use many modalities with their students to improve their language proficiency. In addition, our ESL students participate in State standardized testing that requires them to demonstrate their knowledge of the language domains: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
My Project
Help me give my ESL students headphones to support language development during classroom learning as well as online testing.

We have been fortunate to receive Chromebooks from our district for student use. In addition to Chromebook access, we have several online learning products for students to utilize at their instructional levels while being monitored and assessed. It is vital for ESL students to become efficient listeners. A student's ability to actively listen has a major impact on building the communication skills needed to succeed.
Our school has over 200 English language learners which creates the necessity for headphones to allow students to focus on their individual learning at independent work stations. While headphones are needed to support online testing, they would also allow students the ability to use computer programs while making learning fun and relevant.
