My Students

My 5th grade students come from a diverse, low-income community with about 70% of the school population qualifying for reduced or free lunch. As the "bigger kids" of the school, who take pride in their fountain of knowledge, of which they are continuously developing through the use of various platforms of learning that are prevalent in the 21st century classrooms. Unfortunately, coming from their particular background, students are unable to access these venues of knowledge, but with your help, they will have their opportunity of equitable learning!

My Project

STEM learning relies heavily on technological use--it is in its name after all! My students have been using laptops practically every day, whether it's for math rotations, making Power Point presentations, or exploring scientific videos and articles.

There's even more of an emphasis on technological use this year as our school is using iReady, a program that delivers differentiated instruction for math and reading.

It can be very interactive and customized to the students needs, but can be very distracting if used in a math group of about 10 students.

Headphones can also be very useful during our state testing season, especially for our English Language learners who would succeed and show their true potential if they had the text-to-speech feature.
