My Students

I teach at an urban elementary school in a low-income/high poverty school district. It is an exceptionally diverse student body- racially, culturally, and socio-economically. Many of our students speak languages other than English. The students at our school come to school with diverse backgrounds, cultures, languages, and families.

Our students love to LEARN!

Our school community embraces this diversity and honors all children. Despite a variety of challenges our students may face, one common thread among them is their complete excitement for learning and engaging in school activities. We try to meet the needs of all of our students in person and through distance learning.

My Project

With our second state shut down now upon us the reality that learning from home is here for a while longer has sunk in. Many of my students are working in communal spaces without headphones. This makes tuning in a challenge for many, as they have lots of ambient noise distracting them.

With new headphones that have a built in mic we will be able to communicate with each other even better!

Each student will get their own set to keep for current needs and into the future. Not all families are able to purchase school supplies for their child. Providing students this critical tool for learning is equitable in their ability to participate in their learning. I hope to be able to surprise them all with their new headphones soon.
