This is our first year of EAST, a class which uses critical thinking skills and self-directed learning to collaborate with community partners, peers, and clients, using technology to solve problems in our own community.
We are a small school, K-12 all on one campus, and in a very rural area.
Most of our students come from low socio-economic backgrounds, and our school currently has a grant to feed all of our students a free breakfast and lunch. Many families struggle to provide basic necessities, so individual headphones would not be high on any list!
My Project
EAST is an interactive, student-driven classroom. Multiple students are learning about, researching tutorials, and working on multiple projects at the same time.
The classroom can soon turn into a cacophony of sounds, with student conversations, tutorials, project work, etc happening at the same time.
Headphones at each computer would allow students who need the quiet to concentrate on their particular area of learning, interact with other students in other parts of the state, nation, and world via webcam, and provide educational opportunities they may not otherwise have without access to headphones. Most students are unable to afford individual headphones or even earbuds. The alcohol preps will maintain sanitary conditions for multiple users.
Half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
