Students will use headphones for programs such as Learning Upgrade and Reading Plus to help with language acquisition, vocabulary building, reading comprehension, and writing.
Students who are English language learners or low readers benefit from multi-sensory reading through seeing the visuals on the screen and hearing the words read aloud while following along with the words themselves.
I love to assign Disney shorts (Pixar videos and stories on YouTube) as alternate "texts" to emphasize specific skills such as writing a descriptive paragraph on setting. Being able to hear the sounds of the wind or the birds chirping in the trees help them to focus on sensory language beyond just what can be seen. This in turn improves their writing.
When students need to rewatch a video, the use of headphones makes the learning environment run more efficiently if each student can play it as often as necessary without having 30+ other computers competing in the background. Individual headphones will be a great help!
