This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The band at our school has been growing quickly over the past five years! Our students are excited to be part of the music program; the whole arts program has become a beacon in our community.
Students at our Title I school thrive in the arts, and have demonstrated their skills by advancing to the state-level festival, receiving multiple unanimous top ratings, and having students place in all-state level ensembles.
Students at our school have lots of personality, and are always searching for ways to express themselves! We have been regularly performing at the elementary schools in our area to develop that connection in our neighborhood. Our arts programs continue to be a draw for the school and membership in the musical ensembles has again become a family tradition.
My Project
Phase 1 of our project was to get some tuners to our kids, but it would be so much better if the students didn't have to share them and pass them back and forth! I'll have an organizer to hang them on the wall, so students can grab them and replace them in the appropriate pocket.
Intonation is only one step in the making of a great ensemble.
But this will help us get there! Tuners give students a visual representation of their sound, and teach them to adjust appropriately to match pitch. These devices will be used every day as we help our students listen to their sounds and compare it to their neighbors.
