I have some of the most amazing middle school students in my classes this year. They are so excited about learning new things and having science and social studies classes. Last year they never got to have them and I have agreed to help them 'catch up' on what was missed. They really want to learn!
My students are inner city middle school children who need positive experiences in their lives.
They need to see that others around the world also have encountered negative experiences and not only have overcome them but turned them into positive platforms for greater things. In our school, we pretty much have nothing. I don't even have a teacher desk! My eighth graders do not have textbooks for science, let alone any of the lab materials necessary for this class. When I told the story of this girl to my students, they were really interested in what has happened to her. I truly believe that this venue will help them understand that others also have been victimized and come through it. These students come from a background of victimization and slavery and this will really help to change their mindset. When I first shared her story, they were amazed that she lived through being shot in the head. This is so common where they live, but no one ever survives.
My Project
These students will have an opportunity to see real life experiences that were intended to end the lives of many more than Malala. Instead of allowing this to happen, she turned it around until she became a female activist and became the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. I believe this will inspire them to reach beyond the entitlement mentality so prevalent and grasp an opportunity to encounter their destiny. We will present classwork that will give background information on Malala and after the event is over, will give writing times for reflecting on this girl of their age group and how she overcame all odds. I believe this will inspire them to overcome personal obstacles.
Please make this possible for our students!
I am so excited about the impact this will make on our students and the possibilities of turning some of them to a better life choice. Your donation quite possibility could be the one that makes the difference . They truly are interested and many of them are staying in school because they know this venue is a possibility for them. You can rest assured that you have doe an amazing deed, to allow these kids the chance to see real change.
