My Students
My students are part of a stage crew I have been working on developing over the last few years. They are interested in stage design, lighting, and sound but have had limited opportunities to develop these interests due to COVID-19. This year, we are back and ready to put on a musical, a Black History program, and several band and choir concerts. I have acquired various lights, hand tools, and materials in the last few years and when I bring these materials in for the students to handle and create with, they absolutely light up. Students who would otherwise skip classes or tune out are asking questions, engaging in conversations with their peers, and begging to spend more time on the stage.
My students are grateful for opportunities to learn through hands-on and real-world experiences that the stage crew offers them.
Milwaukee has a lot of venues where my students can get stage hand jobs in the future.
My Project
Choir and band performances need a little pizazz. Help my K-12 school be dazzled during performances. We have a 1958 stage that was last updated in the early 70s. MMS moved into this building from our smaller building to accommodate high school students; the building was shut down for three years and the stage was stripped of most working components. We have been slowly making improvements as money allows. We currently are running two choirs, an elementary and high school choir, and a band that would benefit from the Haz machine. I also run a stage crew that would benefit from learning how to set the new Haz machine up in our system.
