My students need these two speakers so we can continue to incorporate technology into our classroom, adding another element to our Hawk Pride Studio.

My Students
Do you remember the first time you heard a music recording of yourself? Were you able to share this with your friends or family? My students want to better themselves as musicians, and give back to the community. Can you help?
My school is a Title I school with a high percentage of free and reduced lunch students.
As a result of Hurricane Katrina, my school district lost two elementary schools but grew in population with the relocation of coastal families. The district and the community are in the process of still rebuilding. My county has a student population of about 4000 students. We have had three straight years of budget cuts. This year the state of Mississippi cut our school system budget by a little over two and one-half million dollars. Due to these cuts, the county lost 16 teachers, 3 counselors, and one assistant principal. There were also severe cuts in classroom spending. For this reason, funding is very restricted. I have students who are devoted to the band program and strive for excellence in all that they do. Last year the school had two National Merit Finalists, and both were in the band program. This year I have one. My students are exceptional. I am very lucky!
My Project
I believe that as a band director I am teaching these students more than music education. I teach them about Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, and Excellence. This is a band family. I teach this through our rehearsals, performances, and our everyday lives as a band member. This studio would allow us to have the audio/visual/recording capabilities to watch/listen to our performances and critique ourselves, and educate ourselves by watching other successful and talented groups. I would also like to have the capability to record in the band hall. I would like to have the opportunity to offer our community on the Gulf Coast to hear these gifted and talented students by producing a CD that could be distributed to our community, and our donors. This would include our marching band, concert band, percussion ensemble, and jazz band. The speakers would give us the ability to listen to our performances, critique ourselves, and listen to other ensembles and recordings.
Donating to this project and future projects for the Hawk Pride Studio would allow the students to share something that they love so much to everyone they know.
When you have something as complex as marching band and it finally comes together into a great product, the look on the students' faces after watching themselves perform is priceless. These students have been through a lot after facing Hurricane Katrina and I want nothing but the best for them.
